Beating Fear to the Punch

Lately, those of us who are incisive or skeptical by nature find ourselves pushed to the wall of unavoidable deduction.

In a nutshell: the frontal attack on democracy now underway won’t quit and can’t hold. After all the long-suffering and spent hope, patriotic Americans are now watching themselves falter in real-time under the onerous weight of diabolical restraints foisted on Liberty at Federal and State levels, whose cuts seem to deepen and worsen by the day. Even on Twitter, where the built-in bias of by-rote behaviors keep people outraged and in denial at the same time, we are seeing signs of exasperation as reality dawns that all roads under Joe Biden/Klaus Schwab lead to dead-ends and we, the good guys, rounded up inside a fence with needles sticking out of our arms.

But MAGA is reluctantly waking up as the evidence becomes clear post-election that life as we’ve known it is over, that we’re on our own, and now face concerted attack by those who hate everything about us AND the country we love. What’s more, we know they mean to do us grievous, irreversible harm, leaving us only one of two choices: shelter in place or fight.

Not surprisingly, this is the one topic most of us, at least publicly, want to avoid as much as possible. This aversion has an awful lot to do with growing fears of state surveillance and whatever imagined backlash the mere mention of resistance might prompt from our enemies, … coupled to the thought that any violence for any reason as a solution to crimes against us, our past, and our future, is either premature or above our pay-grade.

And both perches are unacceptable for the following reasons.

First, there is almost no freedom now that isn’t filtered thru COVID and the rules of lockdown (sure you can get naked and go bananas on zoom if you like, but that’s hardly the same as going to the local pub to meet your mates without a mask on). And soon there will be no freedom at all. Government redress and Constitutional safeguards are fatally compromised. The vote is lost. Representative politics is disappearing, permanently so. The rhetoric is toxic and relentless, and by dint of our religious beliefs, political affiliations, skin color, gun ownership, and objective refusal to support the dictatorship, we are all on our way to becoming domestic terrorists.

Now, if this were the old West and the same things were happening the gunfight would already be over. The ending wouldn’t be in question. The bad guys would be dead, wounded, or driven out of town, and maybe even chased down and hanged. The womenfolk would clean up, children would go back to school, and life would return to normal.

But this is 2021 and our focus and energy are divided. We’re not one people or even one person anymore, even if wrapped in the same flag. We’re fragments of time, place, and identity. And because of it we don’t seem to want to or can’t tie the two pieces of string together that otherwise forge a conclusive argument that is our only way out from under despite our fears and prevarications.

And it’s this: We must take destiny into our own hands, and sooner than later, or lose it all completely.
